About[ | ]

No Man's Sky is a science fiction survival game set in a procedurally generated galaxy. In the game, you'll start in a lifepod ship in your very own star system. Before you can really begin to explore the universe, you'll need to save up currency to purchase a starship with a hyperdrive. You'll also need fuel, which can be mined from a planet or purchased. There are no lengthy quests or missions in the game; you'll simply be exploring the over 18 quintillion planets and uncovering the game's mysterious lore. What is the Atlas? What's at the centre of the galaxy? Set off with your jetpack, Multi-tool, and trusty starship to find the answers you seek.

Release date[ | ]

The game is set to release for the PS4 on August 9, 2016 in North America and on August 10 in Europe, with a PC release date of August 12. It will be released only on PS4 and PC at this time.
For PS4, the game is available digitally on PSN or on a disc. For PC, you can purchase the game through Steam, GOG, Humble, or iam8bit's exclusive Explorer's Edition.

Game Features[ | ]

  • Procedural Generation - Almost everything in the game in procedurally generated, including ships, plants, animals, planets, and more. Every environment you encounter will differ from the others, giving you an entirely new experience on every planet.
  • Variety of Play Styles - Do you prefer to focus on fighting, domination, and conflict? Become a notorious pirate and destroy convoys to earn currency. More interested in staying noble and sleuthing away from dangerous enemies? Live a life of trading and collaboration. In the game, you'll be able to traverse the galaxy as you wish. You can even share your map with other players, if you're feeling generous.
  • Same Universe for All Players - The game is so expansive, all players exist in the same universe. However, this isn't a typical MMO. You'll rarely encounter another player, and, if you do, you'll have no idea who they are. Small events within the universe, such as killing a single animal, won't be shared with other players. However, big events, like driving an entire species to extinction, will be felt by everyone in the game. The game can also be played offline.
  • Planet-Sized Planets - Just like the game's massive universe, you'll encounter many planets in No Man's Sky that are simply enormous. Of these planets, only a small percentage will actually be viable for life. Even then, the vast majority of life-supporting planets will be primitive and unexciting. It will be very rare to find a truly exotic planet with evolved lifeforms and a lush ecosystem. From the planets, you'll gather resources which can be broken down, combined into new alloys, or sold on the open market. Be careful not to drastically alter the environment of a planet, or you might draw the attention of The Malevolent Force.
  • Your Very Own Ship- There are four main classes of ships in the game: fighter, trader, scientific, and explorer. Though all ships can be used with a variety of playing styles, it's best to use the ship that most aligns to your goals in-game. You'll be able to purchase ships from trading posts, space stations, and other places where ships land. Ships can have different armaments attached that are upgradable, and you'll even start to see wear-and-tear on your ship as you progress through the game.
  • 65daysofstatic Soundtrack- British post-rock band 65daysofstatic has created a stunning soundtrack for the game, entiitled Music for an Infinite Universe. 10 original works and six soundscapes composed by the band for the game were released on August 9, 2016. The soundtrack was released in both digital and retail formats.
