The exosuit protects the player from planet hazards. The exosuit includes a backpack that allows for storage of items and technology upgrades.

Upgrades will provide additional bonuses if similar technologies are grouped on the inventory page.

The exosuit has a maximum of 48 inventory slots. Each slot can hold 1 to 250 items of a particular stackable material. Not all materials are stackable.

The initial exosuit has 12 inventory slots and comes with the basic pre-installed following components:

Inventory Upgrades

The base inventory size of the exosuit backpack can be upgraded from 12 slots to a maximum total of 48 slots. Each upgrade station can be used once to increase the inventory size by one slot. The first upgrade is free, Subsequent upgrades increase cost by 10000 units per upgrade. For example:

  • 12 to 13 - free
  • 22 to 23 - 100,000 units
  • 32 to 33 - 200,000 units
  • 42 to 43 - 300,000 units
  • 47 to 48 - 350,000 units

If all upgrades are done using an upgrade station, the total cost to upgrade the exosuit to its maximum capacity will be 6.3 million units.

To upgrade the inventory, the player may locate an upgrade station either in Drop pods or Rooms that require Atlas Pass V1 to access. Use Bypass Chip on a Signal Scanner and selecting Shelter. This will locate a Drop Pod that contains an upgrade station. Upgrade stations can also be found on space stations or shelters with additional wings, where a room can be unlocked after the player has acquired the AtlasPass V1.

Stamina

Main article: Stamina

The amount of time a player can spend underwater (and the maximum depth/pressure) are items that can be upgraded. Sean Murray has indicated that his character died in one game while trying to dive deeper than his suit would allow. "I found an ocean which was really deep, and my suit couldn't handle reaching the bottom. I could scan and see something was down there, but it was quite dark. I dived down and ended up drowning." [1]

Upgrades that allow this increase are Aeration Membrane Sigma, Aeration Membrane Tau, and Aeration Membrane Theta.

Technology

Like the player's starship and multi-tool, the exosuit can be upgraded with technology.
