The Galaxy Centre is one of three ways to reach another galaxy.
Summary[edit | edit source]
The Galaxy Centre is the epicenter of all galaxies in No Man's Sky and the only direct gateway to the next galaxy in numerical order. A faster and more reliable method of galaxy travel is the restart of the simulation. A restart can influence its next destination, but to use it in numerical order it would demand that the type of galaxy to appear thereafter is known beforehand.
Size[edit | edit source]
This area of the galaxy is completely empty and spans a sphere with a radius of roughly 2,800-3,000ly. It consist of 7 axial voxels (regions) and 4-5 diagonal voxels, which makes it a necessity to have at least 6 glyphs to reach the nearest star system without an error approximation teleport 5,000ly away.
Gateway systems[edit | edit source]
Travellers can only reach the Galaxy Centre through select border systems which are known as the Gateways. To jump from a gateway into the centre, a normal ship needs a full hyperdrive. It is unknown if fuel efficiency reduces this demand.
Controversy[edit | edit source]
The Galaxy Centre was the main goal set forth by the developers of No Man's Sky and marked the final step for any Traveller attempting to reach the next galaxy.
The basic concept of repeating the player's journey over and over led to frustration and outrage among the player base as its reveal was advertised as a major selling point. Even the most enduring explorers became frustrated since there was no centre of the universe to discover at the end of further galaxy jumps either.
Initially the 256th galaxy repeated itself with a changing colour palette if it was ever reached at all. Later on the universe of No Man's Sky comprised only 255 unique galaxies that loop back to Euclid at the end of the journey.
The intention of Hello Games with each major update is to add new features and expand the gameplay experience further. These changes shift the focus slowly from galaxy jumps to staying in one place, building bases and creating communities. With No Man's Sky Beyond, Hello Games plans to take this idea further. Their actual plans have yet to be revealed.
