Guatavita is a moon.
Summary[ | ]
Guatavita is one of two moons (the other being Niflheim) of New Atlantis, the official capital planet of the Galactic Hub Eissentam Civilization.
Etymology[ | ]
Guatavita was the location where Muisca (one of the four ancient advanced American civilizations, along with the Inca, Aztec, and Maya) rulers would be inaugurated. They would be ritually covered with gold dust and submerged in Lake Guatavita in order to please the gods. The Spanish heard of this ritual, and called the Muiscan leader El Dorado, or the golden one. As word of El Dorado spread, the legend grew from a golden man, to a golden city, to a golden kingdom, and finally, a golden empire. Peculiarly, the moon is devoid of anything resembling gold. This is a result of a Naming Oath celebrated with its sister-moon, Niflheim whose golden grass coats the surface of the moon over there.
Guatavita and Niflheim have had a long and special relationship as the moons of New Atlantis. So close is their bind, they took a Naming Oath in honor of each other. Similar to blood oaths, the moons pledged eternal loyalty to each other by renaming their moons after each other. Nifleheim officially adopted the name Guatavita and Guatavita the name of Niflheim.
"Though New Atlantis sink into the Sea of Zonyayp, forever Niflheim and Guatavita shall stand."
While confusing to outsiders, the two moons embrace this peculiarity with pride and are likewise confused that other allied planets and moons do not do likewise.
