Galactic Hub Emblem

Interloper's Handbook - Guide to the Galactic Hub is a guide about the Galactic Hub Project.

Introduction[ | ]

"We are a way for the cosmos to know itself." - Carl Sagan

To the players, the Travellers, the Interlopers, this universe exists in a peculiar state; it's not truly real until we witness it. Although the Gek, Vy'keen, and Korvax are everywhere, they don't upload their knowledge to any accessible data banks. The "known" of Euclid, Hilbert, and beyond comes solely from the players: untold numbers of systems and planets discovered, magnificent fauna, powerful multitools, shared bases, and more. The "unknown," on the other hand, is mostly just that: a vague, dark concept full of potential.

The Galactic Hub exists, above all else, to tap into the potential of "unknown" space and add it to the ever-growing library of the "known." Being in close proximity to hundreds of other players will allow you to quickly and easily access these discoveries, as well as the other benefits listed on the Galactic Hub Project page.

This guide exists to help Lone Travelers adapt to life as Interlopers, citizens of the Galactic Hub. As the largest civilization in No Man's Sky, there are many levels to, tips for, and ideal practices for life within Galactic Hub space.

General Information & Content Directory[ | ]

For general information - in-game content, explanation of the basic concepts, lists of content like multitools/starships/fauna/bases, and more - see the main Galactic Hub Project page. This guide is not to explain what the Hub is, rather this guide is more to explain how to live in the Hub.

Navigating to the Hub[ | ]

Galactic Hub Region Map Unidestiny

The 11 regions of the Galactic Hub. Regions connected to these 11 Hub regions are the Huburbs.

The Galactic Hub occupies 11 regions including and surrounding The Arm of Vezitinen in the center. The regions connected to the regions immediately above and below the Arm of Vezitinen are not considered part of the Hub civilization proper (though they are often referred to in the local vernacular as the "Huburbs.")

The most commonly asked question about the Galactic Hub is, "How do I reach the Galactic Hub?"

Currently, there are three ways.

Portal Travel[ | ]

(Recommended way for those who have unlocked all of their Portal Glyphs.)

With the removal of Portal Interference with the Origins Update, players can now use portals to permanently travel anywhere inside their current galaxy.

  • Step 1: Portal to any planet inside the Galactic Hub. The glyphs to our Capital Planet, Drogradur NO426, are 501BF9557C30501BF9557C30
  • Step 2: Place a Base Computer and claim a base to permanently establish yourself inside the Galactic Hub.

Player-Assisted Travel[ | ]

(Recommended way for those who haven't unlocked all of their Portal Glyphs.)

With the addition of multiplayer and the party system with the NEXT update, players can reach a location just by joining on another player.

After joining on the other player, you can permanently set your new location by creating both an autosave and manual save, or establishing a teleporter connection somewhere in the system (at the space station by exiting the system via warp engine, by visiting another player's base, or by claiming a base of your own).

The popular HUber service allows players to effectively catch a ride to the Hub. HUber rides can be requested in the #trades-and-services section of the Galactic Hub Discord after selecting a role in #role-select. See Galactic Hub Project - Services for more information.

Warp Engine Travel[ | ]

(The old rite of passage, not for the faint of heart!)

This section applies to warp engine travel using either standard Starship warp engines or Freighter warp engines. The technique is the same for both.

Quick Guide[ | ]

  1. ) Check coordinates by building a Signal Booster.
  2. ) Input them into Pilgrim Star Path, and follow the directions given (especially "Degrees from Center").
  3. ) Click on 6th tab (? tab) if you need help.
  4. ) Stop and check your coordinates every 5-10 jumps to make sure your path is accurate.
  5. ) Use Pilgrim Path's Local Mode, XYZ coordinates, and/or the in-game "Scan for Discoveries" feature to locate the Hub once you're within 1 or 2 jumps.

Detailed Guide[ | ]

This is the classic means of traveling to the Hub, and how most people have reached us.

1) Build a Signal Booster by pressing up on the D-Pad, or PC equivalent, and opening the Build Menu.

2) Walk up to / hover over your Signal Booster, or interact with it. You will see a four-or-five-letter "word" followed by a string of coordinates, which will look something like

0469:0081:0D6D:0211

3) The four-or-five-letter "word" is useless; ignore it. Enter the coordinates into Pilgrim Star Path.

Pilgrim Path example
  • Pilgrim Path is a 2D map, but provides info for 3D navigation.
  • "Pos" tab displays your current position in X, Y, and Z coordinates.
  • "Dest" displays your current destination (can be changed in 3rd and 4th tab; set to Pilgrim Star by default, which is NOT the Galactic Hub!)
  • "To center" displays your coordinate's current Distance to Center.
  • "To dest" displays your current linear distance from your destination.
  • "Estimated jumps" displays the approximate number of jumps it will take you to reach your destination. This assumes a perfectly straight path. Make sure to set your proper Warp Engine Range in the 5th tab, or this value will be inaccurate.
  • "Degrees from center" is the most important tool for long-range navigation, and the closest thing we have to a compass. It tells you how many degrees you must turn after facing the center in order to reach your target. In other words: Look through your current star like a "scope" directly at the giant bright light on the Galactic Map, and then approximate the number of degrees you have to turn.
  • You can check that you have turned the right number of degrees by using trigonometry to calculate the expected change in distance from the core based on your hyperdrive range and degrees from the center. Use the formula Δ = H * cos(x) where Δ is the change in distance from the core (new distance - old distance) in 1000s of LY, H is the length of your jump in 1000s of LY (approximately your hyperdrive range, but you may not jump your maximum distance), and x is your degrees from the center. For example, if you are going to jump 2500 LY, and your degrees from the center is 220, then you would expect your target system to be 1915 LY further away from the core than your starting system. See the Trigonometry Table below if you don't want to do the maths yourself.
  • There is no way to 100% confirm that you turned the correct number of degrees before jumping. Interlopers new to long-distance navigation should stop and check their coordinates every 5 jumps to make sure they're on an accurate course, while more experienced navigators might stop every 10+ jumps.
  • "Hint" section just tells you what the best approach to your current situation is. "Travel directly" means use your warp engine. ! WARNING ! Since the update of 3 Oct 2017 (Atlas Rises Patch 1.38). You need to manual saving at save points or beacons.
  • Click "Draw B. Hole Ring" to mark the map with a red ellipse / oval - this is the radius where a Black Hole might spit you out from your current location.
  • A "WARNING" may pop up notifying you that you are either above or below your target region. Ignore this until you get within 10-15 jumps, then start trying to correct it. Region names are displayed on the Galaxy Map, so it's easy to tell if you've gone up or down one region or more.

4) Use Pilgrim Path to navigate to the Galactic Hub based on the directions given, explained in the step above.

5) Once you get within 1 jump away, you may be able to use the in-game "Scan for Discoveries" feature on the Galactic Map to locate the Hub.

  • If not, try opening Pilgrim Star Path in a new tab as well as your current tab.
  • Input your "current location" on the new tab as the Galactic Hub's coordinates (available on the fourth tab).
  • Compare your actual position's XYZ coordinates with the Galactic Hub's XYZ coordinates. The X and Z axes are displayed on Pilgrim Path in the upper left corner, while Y axis is just up and down.
  • This information may help you determine exactly where to go.

6) You can also try using "Local Mode" on Pilgrim Star Path by clicking the button on the upper right-hand side of the Map tab. In Local Mode, you can judge differences within a very small area of space. If you're still too far from the Hub though, it won't show up on the Local Mode map.

Navigating within the Hub[ | ]

Converting Primary Hub Tags to Coordinates / Portal Addresses[ | ]

In addition to being provided with clear directions from another player as outlined in Providing Useful Directions section, the easiest way to travel within the Hub is using Portals. If you need to build a base or otherwise avoid Portal Interference, you can still use a Portal to travel quickly - step through, set a waypoint, return through the Portal, and warp there without any problem finding it on the Galaxy Map. The game has no problem setting a system as a waypoint even when you are already in that system.

For this purpose, it's important to know how to convert primary Hub tags ([HUBn-###]) into actual coordinates. You can then use Pilgrim Star Path to convert the coordinates into Portal Addresses.

  1. ) Reference the general coordinates for the region (see list below these instructions).
  2. ) Replace the "0000" portion with a Solar Index Value. For example with HUB1-21 TopOfTheTree3, you would replace "0000" with "0021" (or "21," removing left-padded zeros). With HUB10-6A Quetzalcoatl's Sun, you would replace "0000" with "006A" or "6A".

The Galactic Hub officially occupies the following 11 regions, as well as a number of "Huburb" regions in an unofficial capacity.

What to Do Once You Reach the Hub[ | ]

If you've followed the techniques above to reach the Hub: welcome to the Galactic Hub, Interloper! Hopefully it will be your new home, a valuable trading stop, an entertaining tourist trek, or whatever you came here hoping it would be.

Before you begin exploring, naming systems, and generally utilizing the Hub, there are a few things you should do.

IMPORTANT: Register for the Interloper Census![ | ]

The Interloper Census is our only way of knowing how large the Galactic Hub's population is, and can be very helpful to other players looking for bases to visit. A base within Galactic Hub space is required to register. Please sign up as soon as you enter Galactic Hub space; if you wait until later, it's a very easy thing to forget.

Directions on how to sign up for the Interloper Census are available on the census page linked above.

Optional: Share Your Arrival on the Subreddit or Discord[ | ]

Post a new "Personal Log" post on the subreddit or #general channel of the Discord sharing your arrival. Consider including things like how long the journey took you, why you decided to visit the Hub, your first plans as a Hub citizen, or whatever else you want to share.

Optional: Register for a Chapter[ | ]

The Galactic Hub has a variety of "Chapters," sub-organizations within the Hub with more specific focuses. The full details can be found on the main wiki page, but to summarize:

  • GH Defense Force - Peacekeeping force. Highly selective registration; generally only accepts interlopers with an established Hub history.
  • GH Star League - "Simulation sports" chapter, like eSports for NMS. Registering means helping with organizing events - anyone can compete as an athlete.
  • GH Builders Guild - Construction chapter. Help with any official projects and sometimes other projects.
  • GH Geological Surveyors - Surveying chapter. Help document new planets, hotspots, minerals, unique geological formations, etc.
  • GH Exobiology Corps - Exobiology chapter. Help document fauna, primarily, but flora research would belong here too.
  • GH Ship Hunters - Equipment/technology chapter. Help document desirable starships and multitools in Hub space.
  • GH Treasury Department - Economy chapter. Help regulate and develop the HubCoin economy (see section below for details).
  • Hublic Broadcasting Service - Media production chapter. Help produce Hub media - acting in-game, voice acting, set construction, logistics/organization, and more.

Optional: Register for HubCoin[ | ]

HubCoin Hubcoin is the Galactic Hub's official currency. "Real world money" is never required or involved; HubCoin is not monetized in any way, and there is no connection to Dollars, Pounds, Yen, other cryptocurrency, etc. HubCoin is, and always will be, worth $0 - except in-game, mostly in Hub space, where it's quite valuable compared to other currencies.

HubCoin is earned exclusively by activity within the Galactic Hub's platforms, like our Subreddit, Discord server, Mastodon hashtag, or Hub-related Wiki pages, as well as through economic interactions with other interlopers.

Registering for HubCoin is easy. Registration requires no personal information of any kind, except your usernames on the relevant platforms.

  1. Set up an Ethereum wallet. MetaMask is recommended and will correspond most closely with these directions, but any option capable of accessing the Sepolia Test Network will work and should have similar steps.
  2. Switch to the Sepolia Test Network: on the Account screen click/tap "Ethereum Mainnet" and select "Sepolia Test Network".
  3. Navigate to the bottom of the "Assets" tab, which should say "Don't see your token? Import tokens", then enter the HubCoin Contract Address:
    0xaaEDDee8A8112ffdb798a02Ca19a732E1434B6E6
  4. Enter your information into the Distribution Sign-Up Form. Distribution is automated - if you make any typos, you may miss out on rewards, so be careful!
  5. Request some SepoliaETH from a GH Treasury Department Marshal.
  6. Wait for distribution! HubCoin monthly distribution is based on activity from the first to the last day of every month. It is distributed within the first 7 days of each month. For example, your activity rewards from January 1 - 30 would be distributed between February 1 - 7.

See the Economy section of this page for more information.

Optional: Register as a Colony Governor[ | ]

The Galactic Hub's Colony Governor program is open to any interlopers, even if you just got here. Each Governor oversees a single Galactic Hub colony; you cannot govern multiple colonies. See the page linked in the previous sentence to see which colonies don't have governors yet - there are many options!

As a Governor, your core mission statement is to maintain the activity of your colony. This is fairly easy while its population is growing and building, but the real challenge will come when you max out the population. At that point, how you encourage activity is up to you. The Hub in general has seen the most success with a combination of economic content, competitive multiplayer, and social multiplayer. It's strongly advised working with the GH Star League (competitions) and GH Treasury Department (economy & social events) to coordinate events at your colony, but you're always welcome to announce your own events too.

To start a colony, you will need:

  • A wiki page for your colony. It must meet the wiki's minimum quality standards. It must also explain your colony theme (if any), building guidelines or restrictions (if any), specific building locations, contact information for the Governor/Governess, and the location of the colony.
  • A date and time to announce your colony.
  • An emoji for your colonists to click on in order to join your colony via the #colony-role-select channel. It must be a standard emoji, not a Discord custom emoji, and cannot be an emoji already in use by another colony.

Each colony will be granted a channel on the Galactic Hub's Discord server. This channel may be viewed by anyone, but only those with your colonist role may post in the channel. However, the role is self-assigned, so non-colonists often take the role without understanding the process. Server members will be able to self-assign a role corresponding to your colony in the "#colony-role-select" channel under the "Colonies" category. Start by organizing your community here. If your community outgrows this single channel, we can discuss getting you set up with your own server, but most colonies have not found it to be necessary.

Whether it's your Discord channel or a colony server, private colony communications channels should be used only for intra-colony matters and "digital tourism" (people checking out what you're doing and what the colony is about). Any content involving the general Hublic should still be coordinated through the main Hub server.

Your internal staff, events, settlement process, colony layout, logo, building restrictions, and most other topics are up to your discretion. Any significant changes (deviations from Hub laws, changes to your colony's location, or other changes you feel would be reasonably described as significant) should be run past 7101334 first.

Optional: Register as a Territory Mayor[ | ]

The Galactic Hub's Territory Mayor program is essentially the same as the Colony Governor program. The key difference is scale. While a governor manages a whole colony, which could be as large as a system or as small as an island, a mayor manages a smaller area called a "territory", which may range in size from an island to a single building.

Governors maintain authority over mayors, but are encouraged to give mayors space to run their territories on their own as much as possible. Unlike Governorship, which anyone may volunteer for, a mayor can only be appointed by a governor of that colony in which the mayor's territory is based.

Optional: Do Your Own Thing[ | ]

The Galactic Hub is designed as a "sandbox within a sandbox." While we do provide plenty of content and activities for citizens, we also strongly encourage citizens to create their own experiences in Hub space. One good example of this is Interloper ricco-gonzalo, Director of the Museum of Simulated Art, who built, opened, and organized an in-game art museum featuring exhibits by a variety of interloper-artists. This was done entirely on his own initiative, only being promoted later by the Galactic Hub staff. That's just one example - if you have an idea that will breathe new life into the Hub, don't hesitate to make it happen!

Hub Life[ | ]

Customs[ | ]

The Galactic Hub has a small number of customs which keep the community together and relatively peaceful.

  • We call each other "Interloper".
  • Multiple players may inhabit the same planet/system, known as a "colony". Players can start and promote their own colonies within the Hub, becoming Colony Governors. Colonies may have themes like farming colonies or racing colonies, or just general residential colonies.
  • Always follow Galactic Hub Naming Guidelines in the 11 regions, or the regions of the post-Euclid Galactic Hubs. In "Huburb" regions, you don't need to follow naming guidelines, but it's still appreciated. You can use "HUBx" while in the Huburbs.
  • When visiting a base, if you're leaving a Communications Station, you should put it far enough that it won't constantly pop up for the base owner while they're home. If possible, nearby caves or mountain peaks are popular choices.
  • If you, as a base owner, would prefer no Comms on your planet, you need to put your own Comm near your base saying so (some people don't like all the icons). However, people might not see it - keep in mind they're just being space-neighborly.

Recruiting New Interlopers[ | ]

Bringing more interlopers into the Galactic Hub is one of the best ways for the average citizen to support the civilization. A few helpful links to recruit people include:

Encountering Other Players[ | ]

Many players come to the Hub expecting to encounter other players. This will definitely happen, but sometimes not on the scale that people expect - the Hub has hundreds of citizens at minimum, but they are spread across multiple timezones and ~5,000+ solar systems of Hub space (even assuming they all stay in Hub space). Your best bet for meeting other interlopers will be competitive or social multiplayer events - see the two sections below.

Participating in GH Star League Events[ | ]

The Depot PVP 11

One player fires his multitool at another player during a VR PVP match at The Depot.

Star League Events are announced most consistently on the Galactic Hub Discord, and our Discord also hosts voice chats during every event. You'll usually need to join on someone who is at the event - just ask in the voice chat or post in #star-league asking for anyone's friend code.

Star League events take place every Saturday and Sunday, and rotate between event type. See Galactic Hub Star League for full information.

Star League East hosts events at times more suitable for interlopers in Asia / Oceania timezones, although interlopers from either timezone are welcome to attend any event.

Participating in Social Events (Social Nights)[ | ]

Social Events, aka Social Nights, are more casual multiplayer events in Hub space. They often have an optional economic component to them. They are are sometimes sponsored by, or held at, Galactic Hub businesses. Social Events are usually scheduled every 1 or 2 weeks, usually Friday, Saturday, or Sunday.

Attending the Opening of a New Colony[ | ]

The opening of new colonies also provides a great opportunity to encounter other players, as a colony is usually most active when it's first opened and many people are starting new builds there. Colony openings are usually announced on the Discord, Subreddit, and Mastodon, but only Discord has the announcements scheduled in advance.

Providing Useful Directions[ | ]

Historically, Galactic Hub citizens navigated by the use of specialized screenshots. With the popularity of Portals over the last few years, this practice has mostly been abandoned. The best way to provide directions to another interloper is to provide Portal Glyphs (best), Signal Booster coordinates (second best), or Hub tag (still viable for navigation, but a little extra work).

Locating a Solar System[ | ]

The steps below are relevant only if you do not have Portal Glyphs, Signal Booster coordinates, or Hub tag for the system you're trying to reach. If you do have that information, your best course of action is either using a Portal yourself, or requesting a ride from someone who can use a Portal. Navigation will be substantially more difficult without one of those key pieces of navigation info.

  • Navigating without a screenshot or a very accurate description is difficult. Regions are very large. Try to at least find out if it's in the upper or lower half of a region before attempting to find the system. Navigating without knowing which region the system is in is basically impossible.
  • If you know what type of Economy the system is, use the Economy Scanner to split stars into 7 possible colors instead of 4. This should nearly double your chances of locating the system.

Locating a Multitool[ | ]

Marked with Comm Station[ | ]

If there is a specific "multitool box" marked with a Communications Station, it can make the multitool much easier to find. Some boxes appear to always give the same model - very good news if it gives an S-Class Alien or Experimental multitool.

Other boxes will give a small pool of multitools. Leaving and re-entering the planet's atmosphere should cause the multitool to "re-roll" in this scenario, but sometimes they may get stuck.

Unmarked - Finding It On Your Own[ | ]

If there is no specific multitool box marked by a Comm Station, you still have a decent shot at finding it.

  • Planetary Latitude/Longitude coordinates may allow you to locate the multitool.
  • One multitool is always available on the Space Station.
  • Vy'keen at space stations or in buildings may give you multitools.
  • Multitool boxes can be found on the walls of Outposts, which can in turn be located by accepting "Missing Person" missions from the Mission Board in a space station.
  • On highly populated planets, you can try flying at low orbit (especially sideways or upside-down for a better view) and landing at any buildings with a Landing Pad. If it has a Landing Pad, it should have a multitool box. Other buildings will as well, especially in Vy'keen systems, but these are harder to quickly identify from the air.

Locating a Starship[ | ]

Perhaps someone has posted a Starship you would like to purchase or salvage. Unlike multitools, this process is pretty straightforward: once you find the system, the best place to shop for a new ship is a Trading Post on a planet.

There are three primary ways to locate a Trade Post

  1. ) With an Economy Scanner, simply bring up the in-flight menu in space, select 'Utilities' and launch the economy scan
  2. ) Visit a space station, and accept a "Deliver the Goods" mission. This will lead you to a trade post.
  3. ) Follow the vapor trails in space onto a planet; these will almost always lead you to a trade post. Putting the sun behind the planet can help see these lines more easily.

If the desired ship is a Crashed Ship marked with a Communications Station, simply fly around and check Comm Station markers until you locate your target.

Some ships may reliably fly into space stations after reloading a save - in these cases, space stations are preferable to trade posts.

Submitting a ByteBeat to the Galactic Hub's ByteBeat Label[ | ]

Interloper Records is the Galactic Hub's music label - technically a business, but really more of an arts program for ByteBeat artists. Artists who submit a track will be paid 100 Hubcoin per track. See the Interloper Records page for details and terms.

Economy[ | ]

The Galactic Hub economy runs primarily on our native currency HubCoin. See the HubCoin section of the main wiki page for more information.

Fundamentals[ | ]

  • HubCoin is a form of cryptocurrency. It does not exist within the actual No Man's Sky game code at this time.
  • Galactic Hub Project members earn HubCoin for activity on their galaxy's social platforms. (GHub Reddit, GHub Discord, NMS Wiki, #GalacticHub)
  • Galactic Hub Eissentam members earn HubCoin for activity on their galaxy's social platforms. (EHub Reddit, EHub Discord, NMS EHub Wiki, #GalacticHubEissentam)
  • Galactic Hub Calypso members earn HubCoin for activity on their galaxy's social platforms. (CHub Reddit, CHub Discord, NMS CHub Wiki, #GalacticHubCalypso)
  • HubCoin will never be sold for $USD (or any other currency) by Galactic Hub staff.
  • HubCoin is based on the Sepolia Ethereum Testnet.
  • HubCoin's existence on the Sepolia Ethereum Testnet means its use will not require significant energy consumption and, by extension, will not significantly contribute to potential environmental damage.
  • Your Wallet cannot be recovered by a third party including GHub staff:
  • Galactic Hub staff CANNOT recover your recovery phrase or password if you lose or forget them. If you do lose both and cannot regain access to your wallet, the funds may be lost.
  • Once you possess a HubCoin, it is your property. While there are repercussions to breaking the rule on sales, HubCoin can never be taken away from you by any external actor, even Galactic Hub staff or site admins.
  • Any time you send HubCoin, it will require SepoliaETH as "gas". This can be obtained for free from any GHub Treasury Dept Marshal or from a "faucet". See the HubCoin link for more details.

Earning HubCoin[ | ]

Sign-Up Bonus & Achievements[ | ]

When you first sign up for HubCoin, you will receive 150 Hubcoin just for signing up!

Then, to earn some more, the second tab of the HubCoin Address Book is the "Achievements" tab. You can earn thousands of HubCoin from these awards - especially the Greater Mushroom Beetle Award, which pays 10,000 Hubcoin if you're the first one to document a GMB in Hub space!

Find a Career / Start a Business[ | ]

Do you want to start taking in more HubCoin than you can earn purely through monthly distributions? Then it's time to start thinking about a career in Hub space! Like a less-developed, less-competitive, more-friendly version of most real-world economies, you have two options: work for yourself or work for someone else. Either way, you'll want to check out the Galactic Hub Marketplace to see what kind of careers are available.

If you decide that you want to seek employment with one of these existing companies, most don't have a formalized application process, so you'll probably want to reach out to the owner directly. You can also take the approach of advertising yourself as seeking employment in the #hubcoin channel of the Discord, or with a new post on the Hubreddit.

If you decide you want to start your own business, make note of what services are in demand and what markets appear to have already been cornered. Most successful HubCoin Businesses rely on skill (doing something most people can't do) or convenience (doing something most people don't want to do, but occasionally need to do). The Hub economy is often more cooperative than competitive, and most citizens have some coin to spare - it may be more profitable to work with other interlopers than to try to undercut their prices!

To formalize a new business, you'll need to create a wiki page for that business. Then notify a GH Treasury Department Marshal so they can prepare your own section on the Galactic Hub Marketplace forum on our Discord server. You can think of this like your own private office where you can connect with customers within the Galactic Hub server.

Businesses which rely on seed bruteforcing are not permitted. Other select services may be forbidden on a case-by-case basis by the GH Treasury Department. However, we prefer to minimize any direct interference in the economy - services are only forbidden if it's determined that they pose the risk of disproportionate negative impact on other aspects of Hub life.

Using HubCoin[ | ]

Shopping for Goods & Services[ | ]

Now that you've earned your coin, where do you spend it? Our Discord may have occasional offers from individuals - like the simulation's own eBay / Craigslist - in the #hubcoin channel. They may sell goods, services, starships, etc.

However, one-off sales by individuals are a comparatively small part of our economy compared to player-owned businesses. Player-owned businesses are listed on the Galactic Hub Marketplace. The GH Marketplace is the primary platform you'd use to go shopping - either browse the page to see what's available, or use your browser's in-page search function (CTRL + F, "Find in Page", etc) to search for a specific item.

Some notable goods available at the time of writing are real-world, physical Galactic Hub pins; real-world Galactic Hub shirts; save edited fauna companions; save edited starships; construction supplies; graphic design services; web design services; a variety of food products; fuel; custom Discord name colors; and more.

If you cannot find the item or service you're seeking, you can also try posting a request in the #hubcoin channel and optionally pinging the @HubCoin role. This is often the best way to commission art projects in particular, like ByteBeat tracks or artistic base additions.

Gambling[ | ]

There are a handful of gambling opportunities in the Hub. Similar to sales, any interloper with coin may post one-off wagers in the #hubcoin channel - for example, interlopers have previously placed bets on an update's release date after Sean posted an update-teaser emoji, or how long it would take Hello Games to patch a certain bug.

More routine gambling opportunities include betting on the victor of Star League events (athletes may only bet on themselves for rounds they're competing in), playing the HubLotto which is occasionally announced in the #hubcoin channel, or betting against another interloper(s) at Caesarus's Palace Casino. Some players have started centralized bookmakers as well, like K.C. Bookmakers.

Other Uses[ | ]

There are other more situational / abstract uses for your coin as well. A few examples are provided below, but remember, your coin is yours - use it however you can think to use it!

  • Prize money for an event
  • Money to fund an initiative (for example, paying people to thoroughly document a certain system or region)
  • Investing in another interloper's business
  • Tipping another interloper for information or other help they gave you
  • Donating to an Interloper Records artist whose ByteBeat you enjoyed

Colonies[ | ]

Colonies are organized settlements of multiple players within the Galactic Hub. Some colonies may have themes, while others are just collections of multiple users. See Galactic Hub Colony Catalog for a full list - the list below covers only select colonies.

Unless the colony is designated for "unlimited settlement," its population is limited to 21 bases. To check the number of bases in a system, warp to the system, pause the game, and hover your cursor over the system name. As long as you're online, it will give you a count of bases in the system.

Capital Colony: Drogradur NO426[ | ]

The Galactic Hub's capital colony, Drogradur NO426, is our capital colony. This is the most populated system in Hub space: the pause menu may show 90+ bases in the system, and the actual number is likely in the hundreds. While you can often find people just living their interloper-lives on Drogradur, keep in mind that Drogradur is only one planet among thousands in the Hub - despite being packed with bases, it's usually not too busy in terms of live multiplayer, as most citizens will be working on various projects throughout Hub space.

Drogradur NO426 is an unlimited settlement colony, meaning it has no population cap.

PVP Colony: Valentine / New Bandera[ | ]

The Galactic Hub's only PVP-permitted zone, the town of Valentine, can be found on the planet New Bandera. The Galactic Hub Defense Force turns a blind eye to this lawless town, where outlaws and bandits have been known to gamble, drink, and ambush those who drop their guard.

Resource Network: the Production Domes[ | ]

The Galactic Hub government provides resources to the population through the Galactic Hub Production Domes, a network of various bases inside of massive bio-domes. See the linked page for a full breakdown of the available resources.

Production Dome systems are restricted. We ask that interlopers not settle in those systems without approval from Leviathan Construction & Supply.

Subreddit[ | ]

The Galactic Hub Subreddit, r/NMSGalacticHub, is our main social platform, as well as a means of sharing discoveries, personal logs / lore, screenshots, information, wiki articles, and more. Although you don't need to participate in or even read the Subreddit to be a member of the Galactic Hub, that's our primary official outlet besides the Wiki.

Browsing the subreddit on default mobile will significantly limit its functionality, and not all of the information below will apply. It's recommended you either select "Request Desktop Version" (or similar option) in your mobile browser's settings, or download a Reddit browsing app that allows you to see flairs and user flairs. One recommended app is the Boost Reddit app, which will allow user and link flairs to be seen.

Making a New Post[ | ]

To create a new post, click "Submit Link" or "Submit Text" on the right-hand side of the subreddit, under the sidebar image. Detailed posting rules are included on the submission page, but essential points are:

  • Posts must be related to the Galactic Hub. General NMS questions, and some content, are allowed from Hub citizens.
  • Posts about other civilizations (except Huburb civilizations) should be posted on r/NMS_Federation.
  • If you are on Permadeath and sharing mode-specific content (Bases, Live Multiplayer, Communications Events) please mention that.
  • Flair your post after posting it.
  • Don't use the "IMPORTANT" flair.

Link / Post Flairs - Sorting Content[ | ]

Under the "Filter" section of the drop-down menu, you can select galaxy-based filters for Hilbert, Calypso, Budullangr, and Eissentam Galactic Hubs, or "Flair Search". After selecting "Flair Search," replace the "REPLACE WITH DESIRED FLAIR" text with the flair you want to search, like "Starship" if you want to see all posts tagged with "Starship". Alternatively, search "flair:desired flair" in the regular subreddit search bar.

To find posts by a specific interloper, search "author:interloper name.

User Flairs - Badges, Awards, & More[ | ]

Discord[ | ]

Like our Subreddit, our Discord server (except the #off-topic channel) is strictly for Galactic Hub-related posts, or at least posts by Galactic Hub citizens. In other words, general No Man's Sky content wouldn't belong on most of the server. Otherwise, the rules are pretty basic - no hostility/incivility towards your fellow interlopers, no homophobic/racial/etc slurs in general, no spam (except a little bit when #hype-room is open), keep off topic posts in #off-topic, etc. See the "rules" channel in the server for a more detailed breakdown.

Verification & Role Selection[ | ]

Upon joining, you will be required to verify your Discord account with the AltDentifier bot. This is to keep alt accounts and trolls out of our server, and is not optional. If you experience any issues with the verification process, try leaving the server and restarting the process. If that doesn't help, contact one of the online Sentinels (admins) or post on the Subreddit for additional help.

After verifying, you still won't see most channels, but the next step is easy - just go go the #role-select channel and choose one of the roles described there. Pick "Interloper" if you don't want any notifications, and select a role twice to remove it.

Multiplayer[ | ]

  • ghdf-distress-calls - Have you encountered a griefer, whether it's PVP or base building? Report it here - and please don't report it elsewhere. They thrive on attention, so this channel auto-deletes after a short period, transferring the messages to a private GHDF channel.
  • star-league - Star League athletes, or anyone curious in Star League, can discuss events, offer tips, and ask questions here.
  • looking-for-group - This channel is something of a miscellaneous live multilayer channel. It's often used for announcing social events, or for unscheduled meetups between interlopers.

  • Star League Chat - This voice chat is used during Star League events as to avoid overwhelming chat in the other multiplayer channels.

  • LFG-2 - This voice chat is a miscellaneous multiplayer voice chat.

Economy[ | ]

  • hub-marketplace - This forum functions like a hybrid of a digital mall and Craigslist. Most businesses will only accept HubCoin Hubcoin. All businesses operate within Hub space, and each business has its own section of the forum. Use the Galactic Hub Marketplace page to shop for items & services, then contact the business through their forum listing. If it's an in-game purchase, a representative of the business will then meet you to provide the products or services.
  • marketplace-reviews - Google Reviews / Yelp, except for the Hub. Leave reviews of your experiences with businesses. This is almost as important as payment, so try not to forget!
  • trades-and-services - This channel is mostly for economic interactions not involving HubCoin. Offer items for barter in exchange for services or another item, or request a ride by pinging the @HUber Captain role.
  • hubcoin - This channel is for discussion or questions about HubCoin, or for HubCoin sales / purchases by interlopers who do not have their own business.
  • hubcoin-advertisements - This channel is for businesses to advertise their products and services. A business may post an ad once every 3 days, and may not ping the @HubCoin role unless it's your first ad ever for that business.
