Entry
Eager to begin my journey, I set off in my tiny ship from my pale blue dot. Earth had pooled all it’s remaining resources to craft this one small vessel, with me at its helm. I was chosen from among the few hundred thousand of my kind left because of my perfect health, the knowledge I possess, and because I feared nothing; at least, that’s what I told them. In truth, I was almost shitting my suit.
I’m one man, inside the most advanced vessel my kind have ever created, hurtling through space at speeds that shouldn’t be possible. I’m terrified, and excited, and mournful. I know that this is the last time I’ll see my planet. The last I’ll see if my few friends. The last I’ll know of human contact.
I climb the access ladder of my vessel and strap in. One final systems check. Deuterium tanks full. Ion engines ready. Destination: The Euclid Galaxy. Coordinates locked.
Goodbye, Earth.
Engage.

Cold. Space is unbelievably cold. The ship has heat, but this is a sort of cold you feel in your mind. Your soul. Hurtling through deep space is numbing. Not much to do until arrival. I think of Earth, and all that’s left of my kind.
Almost there...

Suddenly, the Nav computer goes crazy, I’m thrown out of hyperspace. A huge planet fills my vision, and I’m headed straight for it.
