When speaking to an NPC on a space station, certain conversation options come up with regularity. The following is an example.
Initiating the conversation[edit | edit source]
Speaking to the NPC requires 20 Carbon. You should go in with 80, but once speaking to him, there is a 2/3 chance of getting Carbon by selecting either the "Request Fuel" or "Request Isotope", so once you get enough to get going, you shouldn't need any more than that unless you are talking to a particularly stingy NPC. Each NPC has a different of Carbon they are willing to give. Amounts ranging from 55 to 99 have been observed.
Conversation pattern[edit | edit source]
The pattern to the conversation options is:
- The middle option is always "Request Heal".
- The bottom option is alternatingly "Request word" or "Repair Shield"
If the bottom option is "Request Word", the top option cycles through
- "Request Repair"
If the bottom option is "Repair Shield", the top option cycles through
Conclusions[edit | edit source]
This means the entire conversation is in a loop, the longest gap of which without the option to receive fuel is three conversations, so 80 Carbon is sufficient to get the loop going. Then, if the NPC gives at least 60 Carbon every three turns, you can continue to learn words or earn credits indefinitely.
Atlas Rises[edit | edit source]
NPC conversation has been completely reworked. The following options may show up during a standard conversation:

The NPC will provide a waypoint to a structure. Note that they may send you to a place you’v already been to. This can highlight: Observatory, Transmission Tower, Trading Post, Manufacturing Facility, or Operations Centre.
