Talk:The Arcadia Project
What would you think about removing the part of this page that defines a garden world and simply referencing the Garden World page instead? That would save having to update both pages if a change needs to be made in the future. Just a thought! Ddfairchild (talk) 03:41, 21 April 2017 (UTC)
New players[edit source]
It is confusing and frustrating as a new player of No Man's Sky to find a wiki's content populated with articles written in fiction prose about groups and activities external to the game. When new players find a page written about some player-made project and talk of "Garden Worlds" alongside articles that discuss the content of the game, it's difficult to determine for yourself what is and isn't part of the game's mechanics. Not that my voice has any sway, but please consider keeping wiki resources intended to guide players separate from player projects. User:Anonymous 04:57, 3 April 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks for your comments, I'll try and give you a quick explanation. Unlike many computer games, No Man's Sky is an open platform where just about any player can find a specialty to study and explore. This includes researching ringed planets, building incredible bases, or documenting specific butterflies. You can discover and log alien multi-tools, collect glitches, or find ships that are reminiscent of the Rasamama S36, the default starter ship in the initial release of the game.
- As you can imagine, the NMS community is fairly passionate about both the game AND the discoveries and associations that have grown up alongside of it. (See the Galactic Hub or the Federation if nothing else <g>) One of the Gamepedia/Fandom administrators told me once that this NMS wiki and community are unique in the gaming world as far as involvement and passionate attention to the game goes. But in regards to your question, we do try to make sure our pages that are not "canon", if you will, indicate in some way that they are "fan fiction", whether that be through a fan fiction banner, a Civilized Space banner, a Company banner, a Civilized Space category, or whatever. Regarding the Arcadia Project page, there are several indicators of this, including the Summary section that clearly states that they are a project designed to map out a specific section of the Euclid galaxy, not an actual part of game mechanics. However, the concept of Garden Worlds, first documented on this page, is something that long-time NMS players have recognized and use in their categorization of their own discoveries.
- In short, this wiki documents more than just the game as it now stands under the Living Ship release. Yes, it documents the game now, but it also documents the game's history (for example, we still include pages for resources such as Thamium9 and Aluminium that are no longer part of the game), and it documents the game's rich and extensive community. I'm not sure it would even be possible to split the three areas apart if we wanted to <grin>. Again, thanks for your comments; feel free to shoot me questions if you have them. We're always glad to assist! Ddfairchild (talk) 04:51, 5 April 2020 (UTC)
