Release[]

Suggestion for wording: "Which release the data on the page is based on" I think there are some people like me who don't write data right away, but it would be wrong to enter release atlas if the planet documentation happened before that patch. Artificial Beauty (talk) 06:27, 14 August 2017 (UTC)

When creating new pages, most editors won't actually see that wording unless they look right at the 'template' page. The idea behind 'last modified' is that if someone modifies their page, they should be modifying it with Atlas Rises info. If data is not entered right away on a 'new' page, it can still be Atlas Rises as that's what the page is based on. Knottypine1979 (talk) 15:07, 14 August 2017 (UTC)

Difference of Type and Description[]

Can somebody help me with finding the difference from type to description? Artificial Beauty (devevery) (talk) 08:45, 7 May 2017 (UTC)

Good question! I assume you are talking about the information for the infobox parms. This is one of the "combo" fields that takes two parameters and combines them together into one display. Here's a generic example:
  • if you use the Description parm only and enter a valid description of "MyDescription", you will see in the inbox a display saying TYPE: MyDescription
  • if you use the Type parm only and enter "MyType", you will see in the infobox a display saying TYPE: MyType
  • if you use BOTH Description and Type, you will see in the infobox a display saying TYPE: MyDescription MyType

Note that valid Description values can be found on the Property:Planet description page, while the Type parameter is free-text. Important to note that if the value you enter for Description is NOT one from the valid list, it won't show on the page. Ddfairchild (talk) 06:56, 8 May 2017 (UTC)

Game Mode[]

Would do you think about adding the game mode to the template? As far as I know the game mode changes certain properties of the planet. Artificial Beauty (devevery) (talk) 08:55, 25 March 2017 (UTC)

that would probably be ok if a planet was never visited a second time under a different mode or release. If it was, we'd be back in the same situation. I wish we had known from the beginning that new modes would be added, and that the generation seed would change a bit on major releases. If so, we could have included the mode and the release number from the beginning. It's just one of the ways that a No Man's Sky wiki is different than most, as it is trying to stay constant for all releases even as things change underneath. Who knows - maybe we should have created a brand new wiki with Foundation and another with PathFinder :-) I'll check with the other admins  :

huh? That's the exact reason why I'm suggesting this. The Versions and modes are (in my eyes) not different from the platform, and that already is in the template. I agree that the whole situation is unsatisfying. But I think everything is better than a new wiki for every update!Artificial Beauty (devevery) (talk) 16:48, 29 March 2017 (UTC)
As of June 2017, Game mode and Platform are now part of the infoboxes for both Planets and Star systems. Ddfairchild (talk) 02:30, 10 July 2017 (UTC)
