The Elmhurst Hermitage is a civilized space community.

Summary

The Elmhurst Hermitage is a Civilized space community made up of a single hermit, the Flower-Kin Elmhurstian.

It is located in the Lozunoz Cloud region of the Euclid galaxy.

Mission

The short term missions of The Elmhurst Hermitage are to document all systems and major bodies in the Lozunoz Cloud and to establish a home planet and capital for the Hermitage.

The long term mission is based around Flower-Kin Elmhurstian’s three pillars. The Hermitage seeks to explore, create, and assist. The Hermitage is open to working with others for mutual benefit but primarily operates alone.

Background

When the Euclid galaxy first turned on, Flower-Kin Elmhurstian was there. He traveled Euclid: exploring, documenting, raiding Sentinel planets for Gravitino Balls, and so on. Then, in the distant past, long even before the first recorded Base, the Flower-Kin was drawn into a great slumber.

He awoke into the age of NEXT, but the changes were too much for his tired form to bear; he felt as if he had awakened to an entirely new galaxy around him. Unable to muster the strength to once again traverse the inifinities, he returned to his slumber.

When he awoke most recently, derelict freighters littered the sky. Flower-Kin Elmhurstian spent some time readjusting to the Euclid galaxy, and discovered that there were groups of Travelers interacting with one another! He knew that he must make himself known to them, so he founded the Elmhurst Hermitage in the Lozunoz Cloud as a retreat and rest stop for wandering Travelers.

Naming Guidelines

The Elmhurst Hermitage uses the following naming convention formula:

Star Systems: ELM-XY-ZZZ Name

  • "ELM" indicates The Elmhurst Hermitage and does not change.
  • "X" is a letter indicating which zone of the Hermitage one is in; "Y" is a number indicating which Region of the zone. The Lozunoz Cloud Region is B1, the only Region being actively surveyed currently. The Alpha series remains unused to represent the lost discoveries of the first age before Euclid realigned itself.
  • "ZZZ" indicates the Solar Index Value of the system, which can be found as the last four-digit hexadecimal string from a Signal Beacon (dropping any insignificant digits). If using a Signal Beacon, simply look at the rightmost four characters: if the leftmost of those four is a zero, get rid of it; continue until the rightmost character is not a zero, and that’s the Solar Index Value.

The "Name" is the given name of the system. Names should not be likely to cause offense to fellow travelers and should not indicate any content about the system.

This formula is currently only in effect in the Lozunoz Cloud. The Inner Sanctum, comprised of the first 10 star systems discovered in the Lozunoz Cloud, use brackets before the name: i.e. [ELM-B1-44] Ettsum. Currently, brackets are not used in the Lozunoz Cloud.

Planet/Moon Names: The Elmhurst Hermitage does not use a naming system except for star systems, but the Flower-Kin will often indicate sanctuary planets (or moons) with an initial “@” before the name; bodies of interest with an initial “!” before the name; and an initial "*" to indicate extreme conditions. These are not consistently used, though.

Joining

As the Elmhurst Hermitage is a hermitage, the Flower-Kin is not actively seeking company. But the Hermitage is pursuing an Alliance, so if that is of interest, use the screenname “Elmhurstian” on PS4 to contact the Flower-Kin.

Rules

The rules of the Hermitage are few and simple:

  • Respect the Hermitage: respect the region and star system you’re in, and if applicable the planet or moon and the structure as well. Sustainable harvesting is allowed, but destructive practices (like strip mining or base blocking) will not be tolerated.
  • Respect your fellow beings: the Elmhurst Hermitage is a nonviolent space, so no violence against other sapient beings; when possible, provide aid to fellow Travellers. Violence against NPCs and Sentinels is accepted and violence against fauna is tolerated, though there are other places for you if that’s what you want to spend your time doing.

Others are welcome to assist in exploring the Lozunoz Cloud, but the Hermitage asks that you maintain the naming convention.
