The Animus Beam is a multi-tool upgrade.
Summary[ | ]
The Animus Beam is a Multi-tool weapon which is obtained in the mission Starbirth. A blue variant of the Mining Beam, its primary purpose is the extraction of Fragmented Qualia from fauna, a lethal process which forfeits normal creature resources such as Mordite and cooking ingredients.
The Animus Beam deals ~100% more damage (and mining power) relative to the Mining Beam; additionally, it inflicts 4x damage to non-anomalous fauna weak spots. However, as the weapon does not benefit from Advanced Mining Laser or other Mining Beam Upgrades, it cannot be modified to damage tough objects such as large minerals or Reinforced Doors, nor can its fuel efficiency (similar to that of the Mining Beam) or power be improved beyond initial values.
Game Description[ | ]
A unique overload to the Multi-Tool's standard mining laser. Beam frequency is modulated precisely in a feedback loop with the delta-waves generated by the impact target.
Recordings of the target's experiences are thus etched into tiny fragments of metal and rendered as Fragmented Qualia. Readability of collected fragments is not guaranteed.

Condensed Carbon x100 + Sodium Nitrate x50 → Animus Beam
Animus Beam can be repaired using the following ingredients:
- Condensed Carbon x50 + Sodium Nitrate x25
Animus Beam can be dismantled after construction, returning the following ingredients:
- Animus Beam → Condensed Carbon x50 + Sodium Nitrate x25

The Animus Beam has no upgrades.

The Animus Beam is rechargeable using the following items:
- Di-hydrogen - 0.5% per unit

- The technology icon of the Animus Beam is similar to that of the Phase Beam.
- Patch notes, like the one for the Waypoint Update, sometime mentions the technology as the "Soul Laser".
