NmsMisc BugReport

This page is for documenting bugs in No Man's Sky.

Summary[ | ]

As will happen in any computer game, there are bugs in No Man's Sky. This page is intended to help document bugs found in the various versions of the game.

Please note that this is not an alternative to submitting bug reports to Hello Games directly. For submitting reports, Hello Games provides a Zendesk link for asking questions, submitting feedback, and reporting bugs that can be found here.

When logging a new bug, place it directly under the relevant version heading above other reports, using the following format.

Example[ | ]

Release Date Reported Reported by Status
1.38 2018.04.14 Interloper1 Unresolved (Make sure to mention platform (e.g. PC/Xbox One (base model, S, or X)/PS4 (base model, Slim, or Pro)), game mode, whether in multiplayer or not, first-person or third-person, and what you're doing when experiencing the bug, e.g. flying your ship, on-foot, building a base, loading the game, playing through the story missions, etc.)

Reported bugs[ | ]

The bugs listed below are sorted in order by release, with the newest entries at the top.

Expeditions[ | ]

Release Date Reported Reported by Status
3.42 2021.05.30 DarioLP2 Unresolved Starship Trail Technology is missing after Purchase (Quicksilver is gone) and no longer buyable on the Vendor (says: Already bought). Discovered on PS5.
3.3 2021.05.28 Dragonwing238 Unresolved Companions jitter up and down interspersed by periods of levitation at their original height if resources are mined out from under them. Solution to jittering is to simply move away from the deposit so that it is out of render range so your companion teleports near you, without the physics glitches. Glitch found in Steam PC.

Companions[ | ]

Release Date Reported Reported by Status
3.20 2021.02.18 Drakoner Unresolved On PC (Win 7), finding first Hauler ship to claim, located in the first System the player explores, the nearby Distress Beacon crashes the game upon text displaying it's first page fully (the last moments of the pilot showing some kind of new tech).

Beyond[ | ]

Release Date Reported Reported by Status Description
2.16 2019.11.19 Brabygg Unresolved On PC, during The First Traveller mission, when the player is tasked with finding Log Encryption Keys, the freighter is not marked, meaning that if the player leaves, the mission may be very difficult to complete.
2.09 2019.08.26 swampcastlenms Unresolved On PS4, doors built through glass structures (Glass Cuboid Room or Bio-Domes) work for the base owner but the glass isn't removed and is still solid to any visitor whether in single player, ambient multiplayer, or in group play. The owner can pass through the doors freely. Others are unable to enter.
2.07 2019.08.20 BlackCat Unresolved Cannot set a waypoint in the discoveries tab. When you push down on right joystick to set a waypoint, it pulls up the gamertag info for the player who discovered the system or if it's undiscovered, does nothing.
2.06 B 2019.08.18 BlackCat Unresolved After exiting camera mode, character will not walk/run in a straight line. Have to enter 3rd person view and then go back to 1st person view in order to correct the issue. After entering 3rd person view, the character also starts jetpacking in place.
2.06 B 2019.08.18 BlackCat Unresolved Cannot access supply depots hooked to Mineral Extractor on a magnetized ferrite hotspot even though supply depots say they are full.
2.06 2019.08.18 Multiple Travelers [1][2] Unresolved After traveling through the teleporter in the Space Anomaly to one's home base, one finds themselves having lost ownership of their home base as well as their freighter, losing them permanently if they overwrite any save data in which they still retained ownership of them.
2.06 2019.08.16 7101334 Unresolved Powered doors (the wall-sized doors similar to garage doors, not standard, more human-sized doors) will not shut regardless of whether they're supplied with power or not.
2.06 2019.08.16 7101334 Resolved Game returns "Cannot Summon: No Exocraft Summoning Station on Planet" despite presence of a summoning station. (Constructed within base limits - unsure if it also presents with summoning stations "in the wild.")
2.06 2019.08.16 7101334 Unresolved Communications Stations can no longer be constructed, although old units generally remain visible.
2.06 2019.08.16 Gmr Leon Unresolved Gek shop exterior walls do not appear around where the tech vendor is placed in the shop, allowing one to see inside the shop from outside. This is similar to the old ruin rendering bug reported back with Visions.
2.04 2019.08.15 7101334 Unresolved The new base-only Miners/Gas Harvester, or the pipelines they attach to, are bugged. Both may work at first, but the cycle will eventually decrease from the proper amount (for example, 2,500 Copper every 60 Minutes) to a nonfunctional glitched amount (0 Copper every 00:00 minutes). Supply Depots seem similarly glitched, and do not appear to store resources (though this may be due to the Miners/Harvesters breaking). What triggers the Miners/Harvesters to break is currently unknown.
2.04 2019.08.15 7101334 Resolved (2.06) If a Portable Technology (Save Point, Signal Booster, Beacon, etc) is picked up from within a player's base boundaries using R3, a majority of the items within the base (such as trees, lights, etc) may be removed. This doesn't effect every single item within a base, so be careful - it's possible you could miss what happened until after saving.
2.04 2019.08.15 7101334 Unresolved After using a Teleporter, your base boundary is limited to a ~250u radius. Ordinarily, by placing items near the outside boundary of your base, the boundary can be stretched to ~1,000u radius. This can be fixed by reloading.
2.05 2019.08.16 7101334 Unresolved Sphere Creator, Light Box, and Noise Box base construction pieces all appear to be unavailable outside of Creative.

Visions[ | ]

Release Date Reported Reported by Status
1.77 2019.06.22 Gmr Leon Partially Resolved in Beyond

Description of bug: Across PS4 (base) and PC and every mode, in first-person view in a starship, the dashboard panel for one's own starship displays its name but not its model, as it did in previous versions of the game. Alongside this, in Explorer style starships, as well as Exotics which share the Explorer cockpit, the dashboard panel with the planet name and distance from the planet one is facing clips the first letter of the planet name on the panel readout.

Release Date Reported Reported by Status
1.77 2019.06.22 Gmr Leon Unresolved

Description of bug: Across PS4 (base) and PC, as well both Normal/Survival/Creative Mode, in single-player, surface ruins occasionally do not render parts of the structure correctly, missing parts underlying the roof of towers, and sometimes lacking the plate beneath the plaque.

Release Date Reported Reported by Status
1.77 2019.05.30 Multiple Travelers [3][4] Unresolved

Description of bug: Placing specialist terminals (e.g. Construction/Science/etc.) on a freighter causes base missions to provide incorrect guidance across unspecified platforms and modes. Reportedly having associations stuck to the original star system in which one placed the terminal, rendering them unusable.

Release Date Reported Reported by Status
1.77 2019.05.30 Multiple Travelers [5][4] Unresolved

Description of bug: Both large and medium refiners built in freighter bases on Xbox One (base model?) and other unspecified platforms and modes, when playing solo, tend to lose deposited resources unless one stays on the same floor as them.

Release Date Reported Reported by Status
1.77 2019.05.23 Multiple Travelers [3][6] Unresolved

Description of bug: When playing on PS4 in Normal Mode and using the Terrain Manipulator to dig tunnels, one may occasionally be pushed back to the surface if within the area of terrain manipulated.

Release Date Reported Reported by Status
1.77 2019.05.16 Multiple Travelers [3][4][7] Unresolved

Description of bug: Artemis Path mission lost entirely at various progression points on PS4 (base?) and other unspecified platforms and modes, from as early as receiving initial transmission & the mission not being added to the mission log to being lost during later stages of the Artemis Path.

Release Date Reported Reported by Status
1.52 2018.07.28 Gmr Leon Unresolved

Description of bug: When playing on PS4 (base) in Survival Mode & not in multiplayer, as one flies one's starship in first-person, one can't help but notice that the starship dashboard panel for targeted ships, or one's own ship, no longer displays a model of either starship. However, the holographic model of targeted starships still appears on the windshield of the starship. This is a minor bug, but made mildly annoying as this panel now flickers as if it's trying to work properly & render one's starship model.

Release Date Reported Reported by Status
1.51 2018.07.26 Gmr Leon Unresolved

Description of bug: When playing on PS4 (base) Survival Mode & in multiplayer with 2 other players, as one tries to find crashed starships near Distress Beacons via either Signal Booster or Transmission Tower scans, one finds that when a Distress Beacon is located & visited, more often than not the crashed starship is missing entirely. Alongside this, the Distress Beacon is instead repeating the very first Distress Beacon interaction from the beginning of the game.

Additional bugs[ | ]

The following bugs may not be reported or require further research to make accurate descriptions:

  1. The "floating building" bug where the building (mostly experienced with Ruins) shifts its vertical position upwards. Temporarily this can be fixed with a game reload, so the building resets to its original position.
  2. An Abyss related bug where underwater buildings can appear above ground, even on planets that have no water.[8] A documented case is the Abyssal Horror (stationary) page where the creature is attached to a Sunken Building.
