Dreams of the Deep is a secondary mission.

Summary[ | ]

Dreams of the Deep is a secondary mission that immediately begins upon the conclusion of 16 / 16 primary mission or after warping into a new system after achieving the Pioneer milestone.

This mission introduces the player to the mechanics of underwater exploration and the Nautilon exocraft. It follows the logs left by the crew of an underwater Crashed Freighter.

Initial Description[ | ]

My starship intercepted a strange signal, a recording distorted by the sound of rushing water. It seems like a distress signal, but there is little to identify the source beyond a set of coordinates. I should investigate...

Walkthrough[ | ]

A Strange Signal[ | ]

Initially, the player is prompted to travel into space in order to investigate a weak signal trace being picked up by their starship. The intercepted transmission will direct the player to a Transmission Tower with a stranger's log as well as an S-Class Underwater Protection Module which must be installed immediately. After the installation, a quick scan will reveal the location of an underwater Crashed Ship which used to belong to the previous owner of the protection module. The player must visit the location and interact with its Distress Beacon to learn the blueprints for the Nautilon Chamber and Marine Shelter.

Outfitting the Nautilon[ | ]

The player must now construct the Nautilon Chamber in order to gain access to the Nautilon exocraft, then craft a Hydrothermal Fuel Cell and use it to fuel the submarine. Once the Nautilon is operational, the player is then instructed to give it a test run while keeping an eye out for signs of the stranger's expedition.

After traveling some distance underwater, the Nautilon will pick up a repeater signal coming from beneath the waves, and the player must follow the signal to its source, a Sunken Structure (the underwater equivalent of an Abandoned Building), and extract the blueprints for High-Power Sonar and Solar Mirror so that they can then install the Technology on their exocraft. The player should take care while navigating around these derelict buildings --- two stationary Abyssal Horrors guard the exterior while a Tentacle Plant awaits inside.

The Freighter Crew's Fate[ | ]

Once the High-Power Sonar technology has been installed, it may be utilised through the Quick Menu to scan for Crashed Ships, Crashed Freighters, Sunken Buildings or Submerged Ruins. At this point, the player must scan specifically for crashed freighters in order to detect a Sunken Wreck somewhere else on the planet, then interact with its beacon and extract the blueprints for aquatic base building products. After that, the player must then scan for and visit Sunken Buildings three times in a row, following the journey of the lost crew.

Once the third building's terminal has been used, the player is then directed to use quick scans (standard area scans, not High-Power Sonar) to locate the remains of the lost crew. Three scans, each one performed at least 100 distance units from the previous scan, will be required before the location of one last sunken building is revealed. Interacting with the building's terminal completes the mission, awarding the Lost Bathysphere helmet option in Appearance Modifier.

You do not need to be on the same planet as the one you got the blueprints on. All you need is a Water planet; place the submarine and keep scanning for the buildings/ships.
