The Galactic Metropolis is a group of Civilizations.

The Galactic Metropolis, (often shorted to The Metropolis) is an association of Civilizations and Companies in the Alpha Quadrant of Euclid in No Man's Sky.
The Metropolis does not have a central "hub", instead, it is an association of many civilizations. Civilizations and companies who locate in the Metropolis are not obligated to be part of an alliance or group. However, the civilizations and companies generally maintain friendly relationships and in some cases, formal alliances.
Players are typically concentrated at the Civilizations within the Metropolis, but players can still reside in rural areas within the Metropolis.
The dense concentrations of players and civilizations makes the Galactic Metropolis a prime location for multiplayer interactions, such as meeting other players and finding Communications Stations and Player-built Bases, etc.
