Summary

A NMS Hub is a form of Civilized space within a No Man's Sky galaxy that has been discovered and populated through community-based efforts.

Hubs tend to be larger gatherings of players than some other forms of civilized space, which may be small groups, roaming communities, or players connected through achievements rather than location.

Requirements

The HUB classification is one of special recognition, and has been achieved by only a small fraction of registered civs. There are two methods available to receive recognition as a HUB, and a civ may meet either or both sets of requirements. The main difference between the two is that the Membership method requires 20 documented stars, while the Bases method requires 20 documented bases.

Those that meet both sets of requirements will be listed as HUB (R) status, more commonly known as "double-HUB".

Hub - Membership

This method is based on census membership and documented star systems.

• an official census page is available for use in the wiki
• a total of at least 20 members are on the census, each with two types of ID as indicated above
• 20 star systems pages documented in the wiki in good form
• an official request to be recognized as a HUB has been made on the Civilized Space talk page

When this level is reached, a gold HUB starburst will be placed on their embassy page as well as with their entry on the Civilized Space page. This type of HUB will be listed as HUB (M).

HUB - Bases

This method is based on the number of constructed bases. Originally designed by the UFT, it has been adopted as an additional and equal method of HUB definition.

The size of a civilization is defined by the number of bases documented in its claimed space. Multiple bases from one individual will only be counted once.

• Nexus - 120 documented bases
• Hub - 20 documented bases
• Standard - 10 documented bases
• Rural - 5 documented bases
• Solo - 1 documented base

Nomadic or semi-nomadic civilizations may count a documented base anywhere in the galaxy towards their total count by including the name of, or other recognizable reference to, their civilization in the base name.

Documented bases must be listed on the civilization's census page, must have their own Wiki page, and must include coordinates and/or glyphs.

When this level is reached, a silver HUB starburst will be placed on their embassy page as well as with their entry on the Civilized Space page. This type of HUB will be listed as HUB (B).

NMS Hubs share many of the advantages that one can find by living in a city:

• Support communities both in and out of the actual game environment.
• Social media engagement, articles and video tutorials.
• Available resources and points of interest are often noted in the names of systems.
• Available starships are often cataloged.
• Communication Stations left by other travelers are plentiful, the universe feels less lonely.
• Fauna, flora, and geological attractions.
• Economic benefits from in game farms and supporting data spreadsheets.
• Navigation guides and applications for more efficient Galactic Travel.

Naming Convention

Many of the NMS Hubs follow naming convention guidelines that help travelers to quickly identify desirable aspects of a system or planet, such as noteworthy fauna, resources, or aid in navigation.

Alliance Movement

There are three significant multi-civilization alliances which are active in Facebook groups and Reddit threads. These alliances join together fragmented NMS Hub communities under an allied / united front with a logo, flag, and community guidelines.

Some example of such alliances include: Alliance of Galactic Travellers, United Federation of Travelers, and United Nations 42. There are several other smaller alliances which emerge from time to time.

Populated Systems

Separately from formal NMS Hubs, there are a number of systems around the NMS galaxies that have clusters of population bases that are not formal civilizations themselves but representative bases of many NMS players. For example the star systems in Weekend Missions often feature significant numbers of bases.
