Profanity filter is a game mechanic.

No Man's Sky has a profanity filter for names of the species and planets that players get to rename before uploading.
Query range[ | ]
Besides typical profanities in English language, No Man's Sky profanity filters include references to genitalia, slangs and slurs in other main languages (not included in this article because of profanity filter).
Results of query failure[ | ]
When players include the words in any part of the renaming, the filter will inform players and deny the name.
