Pyrite is a resource.
Summary
Pyrite (Py) is a resource and one of the localised earth elements. It is used as fuel for the starship's Pulse Engine.
Game description
Local mineral extract, typically found in large deposits or extracted from common materials after inspection with an Analysis Visor.
Typically found on planets with a desert environment.
Source
- As a secondary element in some minerals or in Resource Deposits or Hotspots on planets with Barren biomes.
- Also available from some Galactic Trade Terminals.
Pyrite can be refined using a Refiner with the following ingredients:
- Gold x1 → Pyrite x1 ("Metal Restructuring", 0.6 sec./unit output)
- Gold x1 + Oxygen x1 → Pyrite x2 ("Mineral Alchemy", 0.9 sec./unit output)
- Cactus Flesh x2 + Salt x1 → Pyrite x1 ("Floral Titration", 0.9 sec./unit output)
- Uranium x2 + Ferrite Dust x1 → Pyrite x1 ("Environmental Element Transfer", 0.9 sec./unit output)
- Uranium x2 + Pure Ferrite x1 → Pyrite x1 ("Environmental Element Transfer", 0.9 sec./unit output)
Use
Crafting
Pyrite is used as an ingredient for crafting the following products:
- Dirty Bronze -- Pyrite x50 + Pure Ferrite x100 → Dirty Bronze
- Echinocactus -- Cactus Flesh x50 + Pyrite x25 → Echinocactus
Refining
Pyrite is used as an ingredient for refining the following products using a Refiner:
- Basalt -- Pyrite x1 + Magnetised Ferrite x1 → Basalt x1 ("Volcanic Transmutation", 0.36 sec./unit output)
- Cactus Flesh -- Cactus Flesh x1 + Pyrite x1 → Cactus Flesh x2 ("Organic Expansion", 0.36 sec./unit output)
- Cactus Flesh -- Pyrite x1 + Sulphurine x1 → Cactus Flesh x1 ("Encourage Growth", 0.24 sec./unit output)
- Cactus Flesh -- Pyrite x2 + Oxygen x1 → Cactus Flesh x1 ("Encourage Growth", 0.36 sec./unit output)
- Dirty Bronze -- Pyrite x30 + Gold x10 + Ferrite Dust x120 → Dirty Bronze x1 ("Alloy Latticing", 45 sec./unit output)
- Dirty Bronze -- Pyrite x30 + Gold x10 + Pure Ferrite x60 → Dirty Bronze x1 ("Alloy Latticing", 45 sec./unit output)
- Dirty Bronze -- Pyrite x30 + Platinum x5 + Ferrite Dust x120 → Dirty Bronze x1 ("Alloy Latticing", 45 sec./unit output)
- Dirty Bronze -- Pyrite x30 + Platinum x5 + Pure Ferrite x60 → Dirty Bronze x1 ("Alloy Latticing", 45 sec./unit output)
- Dirty Bronze -- Pyrite x30 + Silver x20 + Ferrite Dust x120 → Dirty Bronze x1 ("Alloy Latticing", 45 sec./unit output)
- Dirty Bronze -- Pyrite x30 + Silver x20 + Pure Ferrite x60 → Dirty Bronze x1 ("Alloy Latticing", 45 sec./unit output)
- Dirty Bronze -- Pyrite x30 + Tritium x20 + Ferrite Dust x120 → Dirty Bronze x1 ("Alloy Latticing", 45 sec./unit output)
- Dirty Bronze -- Pyrite x30 + Tritium x20 + Pure Ferrite x60 → Dirty Bronze x1 ("Alloy Latticing", 45 sec./unit output)
- Ferrite Dust -- Pyrite x1 → Ferrite Dust x1 ("Ferrite Dust Extraction", 0.36 sec./unit output)
- Paraffinium -- Pyrite x2 + Ferrite Dust x1 → Paraffinium x1 ("Environmental Element Transfer", 0.36 sec./unit output)
- Paraffinium -- Pyrite x2 + Pure Ferrite x1 → Paraffinium x1 ("Environmental Element Transfer", 0.36 sec./unit output)
Cooking
Pyrite is not used as an ingredient for cooking using a Nutrient Processor.
Trivia
- Pyrite (FeS2, name derived from the Greek word pyrites, meaning "of fire") is an iron-sulfide, commonly mistaken for gold and thus nicknamed 'fool's gold'. In real life, Pyrite's closest use as fuel was previously a source of ignition in early firearms during the 16th-17th century but is also now commonly more used as a cathode material in Energizer's lithium batteries.
