In the New Jambi page, fill me in on the reference to "Calypso Yautja" as the claiming group? Thanks!

Avatar for Intothedoor

Yes - player MrBlack87 has been in the galaxy for a long time and he was considering this as his Capital system, we are in current discussions on the details. This was a name he came up with over a year ago so it all might be changed

Avatar for Ddfairchild

With it being in the "civilization" category, it creates an automatic category on the page for the civ, and I hate to create a category for something that doesn't even exist

Avatar for Intothedoor

I can remove it for now until clearer decisions are made

Per your question about the Cargo query.

Short answer: we would have to make a specific CARGO query for it

Long answer: we've tried to find the CARGO queries that work best across the general universe. The vast majority of regions, if they have any systems at all, have no more than one or two, so having to have a separate query for each release would be a bit of a nightmare. I know from sad experience...that's they way I did the breakdowns for Multitools and the regions-on-galaxy-pages and I kick myself every time a new release comes out and all those pages have to looked at.

I made a bunch of changes today so that the CARGO queries for the Starship catalogues DON'T all have to be changed every time, and so I can just change one input template and we're good there.

So the thought of coming up with different systems-on-region pages by release does, as you might guess, make my teeth chatter a bit!

However, I am always ready to listen - fill me in on why you want to separate them out by release? Thanks!

Avatar for Intothedoor

how about: can the cargo display the page version of each page (like color or race)? having that sort-able column of info does the same thing.

Avatar for Ddfairchild

When doing CARGO queries, we've tried hard to keep the release out of the display itself and only show information specifically about the item in question, not the time frame that it existed in the game.

I've added two release-specific queries to your page, which you can take a look at. It just means there may be extra maintenance on your part every time we move to a new release.

Still though, help me understand the purpose of wanting to know the release for a system? If you do the hover, the popup will show the release there. Thoughts?

Avatar for Intothedoor

Specifically I want to know what systems have been updated. At this point there is a big difference between an Atlas Rises page to a current one. I was envisioning it much like how we have the galaxy pages, with versions separated.

Avatar for Ddfairchild

One big difference. There are 256 galaxy pages to review and possibly modify with a new CARGO when a new release comes out. That's bad enough. But on the other hand, there are more than 3000 region pages. I don't have time for THAT kind of review <g>

You'll just need to remember to update this page from here on whenever a new release comes out.

Avatar for Intothedoor

This brings me back to thinking - adding the info column to the Star System CARGO - then the info is there and if anyone wants they can use the little triangle thingy to sort by version name. I realize this extra maintenance may be forgotten and the region may suffer in the future because of it. Certainly, I don't understand all the ins and outs but is there a reason we wouldn't want to add this info?

Avatar for Ddfairchild

As I mentioned above, we want the cargo display to show data specific to the item in question, not the time frame that it happened to last receive an update. Also, the more columns you add to a display, the more the individual data gets lost in the shuffle. For example, I'm not all that happy with the starship catalogue lists, showing seven columns is pushing the boundaries of readable data. But who know. <shrug>

Avatar for Ddfairchild

On the star system pages where you're updating the infobox, you can also plug in the color parm if the page specifies the star's color. (for example Plimens Thanks!

Avatar for Intothedoor

I always forget that with the old pages, for so long I included that info but combined in star class that I miss it. Should be about done for now... just another category crisis of identification... but I am getting there.

Avatar for Ddfairchild

Hey, quick reminder on HUB1-E4 Proximus I. If this has been discovered across all three platforms, then we need three separate pages, one for each platform. Thanks!

Avatar for Ddfairchild

Sounds good. I updated the page by removing the alias tags for PC and Xbox, and adding an explanatory note saying all three platforms had renamed it the same.

Avatar for Intothedoor

Thank you for the explanation in the alias section but does it really have to be removed from the info box? it does exist and its nice seeing all platforms represented in one location, I think this tells a reader more then just having PS4 there, plus this is technically a 'Home capital' page so more representation (turethful) the better for the civ an the player knowing if we/they are on the same platform. Really even the Alias seems ok to have... if a page gets built then the link is already there. I do not 100% agree on this one.

Avatar for Ddfairchild

For pages where there are separate pages for separate platforms (planets, stars, etc) the platform parm in the infobox indicates which platform is being represented by the page in question.

For pages where there is only one page across the board (companies or civspaces etc), then the platform parm can show multiples.

Oh, and a separate question. Do you not use Discord because you don't particularly need to, or because you don't like using it? I have found that using the NMS wiki discord can be handy when having a back and forth conversation (such as this one)

Avatar for Intothedoor

I understand what you're getting at - I think CARGO might be eliminating these nuances that I seem to like so much :) as far as discord I have never used it, I haven't found myself in many situations where I need it. I have used PSN texting to communicate the most while in game. I guess I find myself too distracted to communicate on too many platforms.

Avatar for Ddfairchild

Well, the nuance is still there, it's just in the body of the page instead of the infobox. This has been our standard pattern for cross-platform discoveries for long before CARGO got here <grin>

Or look at it this way. Let's say we have a page called HUB1-E4 Proximus I (Xbox) to document the system on the Xbox platform. So the reader selects the page for Xbox, opens it up...and there in the infobox they see PS4/PC/Xbox. "Wait a minute", I can hear them saying, "I thought I opened the page for Xbox? What's the PS4 and PC doing here?" A bit confusing, to say the least.

Now if you are reading on the page itself and come to a section called "Alias names", you might expect to find information there about other names, including those on other platforms.

At any rate, that's how I've always interpreted this.

Avatar for Ddfairchild

question on New Hub Order Technology Catalog. This uses the star system infobox, so is being categorized as a star. It isn't really a star system, is it?

Also, since it appears to be a catalog of sorts, it probably shouldn't be listed as part of the Xukarsav Boundary region, as it's also appearing in the systems list for the region.

Thoughts? Thanks!

Avatar for Intothedoor

I think I fixed this, removed the infobox and just used the logo.

Avatar for Ddfairchild

Your page, and that of the Cosmic Cooperative, were hacked earlier today and changed to redirects pointing to the Galactic Hub. I have reverted the changes and your page should be back to normal. Thanks.

Avatar for Intothedoor

Trolls will be trolls. The Federation had a little falling out with the CC leaving among a couple other groups. Technically they all left on their own accord... I'm too old to know but I assume they were all fueled by some sort of GHUB jealousy and an odd sense of what the Fed is really about. The next day many people's reddit and discord (I don't use discord) accounts were flooded by spam of some sort. It's rather weird really... and just as odd these 'spammers' would invoke the names of the Vestrogra Hub, MightyFox, Colorthrowers, FearFox, Galactic Glory. I have no idea what's got their goat... for lack of a cooler saying :)

Thanks for keeping an eye on the joint, beware more BS may happen.

Avatar for Ddfairchild

What I've been unable to figure out is why they picked on your page.

Avatar for Ddfairchild

You'll notice I made some changes on the Ryung pages as for as disambigs. With this crossing multiple releases and platforms, probably the best way to make all the pages linkable is to use the Alias names section (which is what I did).

If we keep coming up with new pages, we may decide to go to one of the hand-built disambig tags like we have for GenBra, for example. But we shall see. Thanks!

Avatar for Intothedoor

looks good I just corrected them as the first page was Atlas not pathfinder.... but looks good thanks!

Avatar for Ddfairchild

is LV-1134 a base, a planet, or both?

Alos noticed that a couple of recent pages reference a new "GenBraTagSynthesis" macro, but it's showing up red. Thoughts?

Avatar for Ddfairchild

OK, I've got a suggestion for you. Instead of you having to create a new GenBraTagXXX every so often, I created GenBraTagV for you (where V stands for Version). It allows you to enter a parm when you call it with the version you want to use.

To create your tags for Beyond, use this:

{{GenBraTagV|Beyond}}

To create your tags for Synthesis, use this:

{{GenBraTagV|Synthesis}}

Then you can keep your tag appearance consistent across your pages. It will place the page in the "Gen Bra XXX" category. Thoughts?

You can see a live example on Trace of Itvaler-III.

Avatar for Intothedoor

I am open to change but sometimes it takes me a little bit to figure out how to change and if that change is good... But I do want to improve the wiki and not hinder it. So I am not sure exactly if this is doing the same thing or not. I do agree my boiler plate tags kinda feels out of place when it says 'GenBra Beyond' on a 'Synthesis' page so I'll give you that. Here's the 'intothedoor' ridiculous things situation: I like to know what I spent my time on given a time period, since I don't have 1000's of hours (a little over 1200 spread over several saves) in the game, much of my time has been on the wiki, probably 50/50; so it brings a smile to my face to see my time wasn't wasted. I also like to know I have been keeping pace with the GHUB hahahh kinda, no competition here, but it is fun considering it's just two people here. So in the end its fun for me to see during Atlas I have like 250 pages and NEXT/Abyss/Visions it was like 290 pages and now its like 30. So I guess I just want to keep that spirit alive. I am low on wiki knowledge but does this macro you made separate each time a new version is added? and how would it work to have my old pages linked? like how I have the GenBraTagBeyond for example with each version represented on top because I would want links to all old pages too. and yes I know I am difficult! thanks for the advice as always and I would be happy to try and update this situation.

Avatar for Ddfairchild

OK, sorry I didn't explain very well.

If you use the new macro with Beyond indicated as the parm, it will give you EXACTLY the same results in all particulars as if you used GenBraTagBeyond.

If you use it with Synthesis indicated, it will give you EXACTLY the same results as if you were using GenBraTagBeyond, except that it would place the page in the GenBra Synthesis category.

All this new template does is save you from having to create a new TAG template any time you want to start logging a new version. A side benefit would be if you had a tag on a page from Beyond and you wanted to swap the the page to Synthesis. Just go and change the parm value from Beyond to Synthesis and you're done.

So there is NOTHING automated, which I think was your main concern.

Avatar for Intothedoor

ok so it sounds pretty good - how do I integrate it with my boiler plate Template:GenBraTagBeyond verse the instances where I only tag a page with a category?

Avatar for Ddfairchild

Use this new template anywhere you would use the GenBraTagXXX macro. If you are just tagging with a hard-coded category, continue to do that like you always do

Avatar for Ddfairchild

Quick question - you have a base page GenBra Odyalutai Core Resort. However, you also reference this name as being one of the planets of GenBra 256 - Odyalutai Core Resort, and that it's the name of the planet your base is located on. Fill me in on which it is? If they do in fact have the same name, we'll need to make a change in the wiki somewhere to differentiate between the two.

Thanks!

Avatar for Intothedoor

Good point, they do have the same name - I have added (Planet) with every planet reference. I took all these pics but the base was built and all things named by AstromonsX

Avatar for Ddfairchild

I created a disambig template for your pages and installed it on all three. If you decide to create a new page for a future release, it's just a matter of updating this one template and all the pages will update. Thanks!

Avatar for Intothedoor

thank you for this - it looks great!

Avatar for Ddfairchild

FWIW, not bad being in the top 200 of the Gamepedia universe, and in the top 5 of the nms wiki. Thanks for all your contribs!

Avatar for Intothedoor

hey wow - that's pretty cool... I had not looked at it that way. thanks to you too!
